5 Questions with Matt Hranek from WM Brown

1. You are the founder of WM Brown which is a great publication. Culture, menswear and many other topics play a big role. Could you explain a bit more in detail what WM Brown is all about?

I was searching for a magazine that covered all the topics I liked under one title—style, cars, watches, food, etc.—so I decided to make it. It’s a niche magazine for sure, with a balance of high and low. You know, grand cuvée and chicken wings, bespoke tailoring and thrift finds.

2. Your diverse roles must involve a travel-intensive and fascinating lifestyle. Could you describe what a typical day looks like for you?

First, I need 7-8 hours of sleep. I wake up early, drink black coffee, and check all my digital comms. Then I exercise, which is either a run or a gym visit. Depending on where I am in the world, I start crafting the Wm Brown universe—planning the next issues, designing and discussing collaborations, and speaking with our small team on strategic operations.

3. Coming to your personal style. How would you describe your approach to dressing?

My style is a blend of Northeastern preppy and old Neapolitan influences. I like well-made things and am very lucky to have an arsenal of good tailors and designer friends who keep me well-kitted. I appreciate good fabrics and comfortable fits, from shorts to tuxedos.

4. What does "dressing well" mean to you?

Well made things of good materials that fit well and make you feel like your best self.
